Bemidji Fire Department started rendering basic life support (BLS) emergency medical services as of March, 1992.  Firefighters provide pre-ambulance care in life threatening situations.  There are about 450 calls per year for medical emergencies.  The EMS response area covers the Bemidji city limits.  The Bemidji Fire Department fills a crucial link in the chain of survival.  Firefighters are trained in airway management, defibrillation, CPR, and basic life support.

Every firefighter has advanced Emergency Medical Training. 

For critically injured patients, seconds can determine life or death!
