Basic Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

 What Does Being an Election Judge Involve?

  • Mandatory 2-Hour Training (paid) - Head Judges require additional One Hour Training
  • Judges can work a full day shift or half day shifts
  • Judges can work one or two elections (2026 Elections: August 11, November 3)
  • Health Care Facility Election Judge Opportunity - Requires Additional One Hour Training

 Who is Eligible?

  • You must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
  • You must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • You cannot be a candidate or the spouse, parent, child, or sibling of any candidate on the ballot in that precinct
  • High school students 16 or 17 years old may serve as trainee election judges.

 What are the Election Judge's Duties?

  • Set up the Polling Place
  • Operate Voting Equipment
  • Direct Voters to Correct Line
  • Register Individuals to Vote
  • Ensure all Qualified Voters are Permitted to Vote
  • Distribute Ballots and Demonstrate How to Vote
  • Assist Voters
  • Close Down Polling Place Following Voting
  • Determine Results After Polls Close
