A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF
Our mission statement is the guiding philosophy for our department. The Bemidji Police Department’s strategic plan was developed under the guidance of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and focuses on community policing and problem solving. I am extremely proud of the work performed by the women and men of this department who embrace the community policing philosophy and carry out our mission every day. Our staff is well trained and equipped to provide exemplary service to our community.
ABOUT THE CHIEF
Chief Mike Mastin began his law enforcement career working for the Cass Lake Police Department in 1999. In 2000, he was hired as a patrol officer for the Bemidji Police Department by Chief Robert Tell. In 2003 Mastin was assigned as an auto theft investigator for the department. He held this position until he was promoted to a sergeant in 2007. In March of 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Captain. Between 2002 and 2011 Mastin also participated as a member of the Headwaters regional SWAT Team where he held the positions of operator, team leader and commander. In December of 2011 Mastin was selected as the 10th Chief of Police for the Bemidji Police Department.
Chief Mastin’s education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Bemidji State University and a Master’s Degree in Leadership from Concordia University in St. Paul.
