ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:
Since 2023, the Bemidji Police Department has been working toward re-establishing our canine program. Unfortunately, the department has not had a canine program since K9 Justus retired in the early 1990’s.  Due to lack of funding, the Bemidji Police Department has had to rely on surrounding agencies to assist with our K9 needs.

We are excited to announce the newest Bemidji K9, Doc made his debut in March 2024.  This Labrador Retriever is highly trained in the detection of controlled substances, the ability to assist officers in locating evidence, missing people and non-violent offenders.  Officer Kniss and K9 Doc attended 12 weeks of training the beginning of March 2024.  Officer Kniss and her new partner are excited to enhance police and community relationships at local events and be positive figures for our community.

In an effort to continue to fund the K9 Program, the Bemidji Police Department will be hosting various events and campaigns. Stay tuned and be sure to check back often!
